W21 - Discharge Planning Within a Recovery Perspective
DJ Dunlap, LCSW, CBHNP
Bonnie Clark, RN, CBHNP

Dupre

The US Department of Health and Human Services has reported that individuals with mental illness are hesitant to continue services in the community due to stigma. An expectation of the mental health discharge plan is to help move individuals to less costly services to continue to meet their mental health needs in the least restrictive setting. This session examines current mental health discharge practices in literature and relates the practices to recovery perspectives. The goal is to acquire skills necessary to determine whether your agency’s current discharge practices promote or detract from the recovery perspective’s stated outcomes. The presenter will identify and discuss possible additional discharge practices which may augment your current discharge planning process and further support the recovery perspective.
