Passion, Purpose, and Possibilities: A Fireside Chat
Sunday, October 5, 7:00 p.m., Convention Hall

Across the ages it has been noted that the journey is often where the lessons are learned; that an end point doesn’t have to be the primary goal. The journey of recovery is no different and learning to live with mental illness offers insights not just for the individual, but also for clinicians, family, friends, colleagues, and employers. In this unique and interactive presentation is the opportunity to share a recovery journey from an individual, her therapist, and the organization that employs her in a peer specialist position. They will offer:

  • The individual story of recovery, from initial involvement in treatment to working as a peer specialist;
  • The perspective of the individual therapist, from the unique challenges of engagement to a successful ongoing therapeutic relationship in a recovery-oriented approach to treatment; and
  • The perspective of the provider in including a peer specialist working with the treatment team and the integration of a recovery culture into the fundamental approach to care.
