Neltner\, PT\, DPT\, NCS\, ATC \nThursday\, August 10\, 2017\n12:00 pm EDT\, 11:00 am CDT\, 10:00 am MDT\, 9:00 am PDT \nLindie McDonough is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Certified Brain Injury Specialist at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital\, in Baltimore\, MD\, where she works primarily in the trauma and rehabilitation programs. Lindie is a Senior Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and is responsible for organizing school and community re-entry programming. She is also the director of Abilities Adventures\, a community-based adaptive sports program in Baltimore. \nLindie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Community Services from Stevenson University in 2005\, a Graduate Certificate in Education from George Washington University in Washington\, DC in 2010\, and her Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2013. Her passion lies in helping her patients reach their full potential by coaching and guiding them to be active members of the community through sports and recreation. When not at work\, Lindie enjoys volunteering for community organizations such as Special Olympics and Wounded Warriors. \nChristy Neltner is a Physical Therapist and the In-patient Physical Therapy Coordinator at The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh\, in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, where she specializes in neuro-pediatrics. In addition to her clinical responsibilities\, she also enjoys facilitating others to explore leisure\, fitness\, and activity options. This passion led her to develop an adaptive kayaking program for youth participants at the institute\, partnering with a local nonprofit organization with a similar mission. \n  \nChristy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2001 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from The University of Pittsburgh in 2003. She also earned her APTA Neurologic Clinical Specialist Certification in 2008. Christy serves as Clinical Faculty in Physical Therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh where she provides clinical consultation on student benchmarking and assists with admissions review. In addition to kayaking\, Christy enjoys camping\, hiking\, biking\, and enjoying the great outdoors with her husband and daughter in her free time. \nAt the end of the session\, each participant will: \n\nIdentify the health and psychological benefits of an active lifestyle;\nDiscuss the implications of limited opportunity for activity for children living with a disability;\nExplore legal and liability considerations and pitfalls to avoid when developing an adaptive community program; and\nLearn creative funding ideas and tips for long-term program sustainability.\n\nRegistration is now open.
