SUMMARY:Webinar: Preparing for Independence: Easing the Transition between Adolescence and Adulthood for Individuals with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Agenda | Register \nCandice Gangl\, OTD\, OTR/L\nThursday\, October 6\, 2016 \n 12:00 pm EDT\, 11:00 am CDT\, 10:00 am MDT\, 9:00 am PDT \nCandice is a clinical educator and occupational therapist at Gillette Specialty Healthcare System in Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, working at both the Gillette Specialty Healthcare Lifetime and Maple Grove clinics. Her unique position provides her the opportunity to truly work with persons with special health care needs across the lifespan\, serving clients from early childhood through many stages of adulthood. \nCandice received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lawrence University in Appleton\, Wisconsin and completed her doctoral work in occupational therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis\, Missouri. This topic has long interested Candice and she completed her doctoral research on the role of occupational therapists in adolescent transition in the school system. Candice has been instrumental in generating resources for her colleagues at Gillette to guide the team as they help their patients increase independence while they age. Candice currently co-chairs the Gillette Transition Capacity Program Development Team\, an organization-wide task force that focuses on transition-related issues. \nAt the end of this session\, each participant will: \n\nIdentify strategies to facilitate transition between adolescence and adulthood;\nRecognize transition as a process that starts in childhood;\nDiscuss areas to consider as adolescents enter adulthood; and\nDetermine at least two ways transition services can be improved or initiated within your own organization or setting.\n\nRegistration is now open. A link for the webinar will be sent on October 5\, 2016. All webinars are free for members of IPRC. Registration fee for non-members is $179. Not a member? Consider joining today. Membership information is available here.
