ODP Announcement 22-028 is to notify licensees that trainings in First Aid, Heimlich techniques, and/or CPR provided to staff and caregivers in ODP-licensed settings on or after April 1, 2022, must have an in-person component.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, ODP permitted online-only courses with no in-person component, as many hospitals and health care organizations were not offering in-person classes. Hospitals and health care organizations have since resumed in-person instruction with necessary COVID precautions in place. As such, any training in First Aid, Heimlich techniques, and/or CPR provided to staff and caregivers in ODP-licensed settings on or after April 1, 2022, must have an in-person component.

ODP Announcement 22-027 states that the Temple University Harrisburg Certified Investigator Program and the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) will be facilitating Forums for Certified Investigators (CIs) and others involved in the incident investigation process. 2022 NADSP Advocacy Symposium: Amplifying The Voices Of Direct Support Professionals
March 9–10, 2022
Register Now!

Over 300 Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), self-advocates, and family members from almost every state in the country are set to embark on NADSP’s first ever national advocacy event next week on March 9 and 10. The purpose of this virtual event is to bring the DSP perspective to the forefront of Congress and the Administration during a time of unprecedented workforce challenges.

The NADSP recognizes the previous absence and critical importance of lifting the voices of DSPs to federal policy-makers so that public policy can be informed by the people who are on the frontlines of supporting people with disabilities to live, work, and thrive in the community. This 1.5-day virtual symposium will culminate with virtual meetings with Congressional leaders and staff to educate and advocate on NADSP’s public policy priorities for 2022.

Registration will close TONIGHT, March 2, 2022, at 8:00 pm EST.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) and the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) are pleased to announce that the latest edition of the Positive Approaches Journal is now available!

All humans engage in their world in ways that work for them. Yet individuals with complex needs may do that in ways that challenge their supporters. Applying Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) may provide the key to deciphering and assisting the complex messages being sent by the individual. This issue of Positive Approaches Journal examines the misconceptions associated with behavioral supports, how understanding behavioral supports and applying them in a family setting can improve the outcomes for children, and how supporters can think out of the box and work together to utilize a behavioral support approach to treatment. By redefining how we approach behavioral support, we are able to reach a more thorough understanding of people across the lifespan.

This issue of Positive Approaches Journal is in digital form, available for viewing online or for downloading.
