The Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association (PRA) would like to encourage you to recognize an employee, boss, co-worker, organization, employer or individual who you feel is doing an outstanding job in the field of rehabilitation. Please read over the PRA Award categories. We would also like to highlight an additional award that was added a few years ago called the PRA Business Award to recognize employers who have demonstrated achievement in recruiting, hiring, and retaining persons with disabilities.

If you would like to submit a PRA Award nomination, please complete the nomination form and submit by email or mail by November 1 to:

Bonnie Bluett, Co-Chairperson
PRA Awards Committee
49 Park Street
Seven Valleys, PA 17360

If you look over our PRA Awards history on the PRA website, you will be inspired to see the names of so many dedicated rehabilitation professionals, and we would like to encourage you to recognize some additional candidates! If you have any questions, please call Bonnie Bluett at 717-515-4995. Thank you for taking the time to submit a nomination and recognize someone in the field of rehabilitation.

Supporting and Informing Paths to Transition

The COVID-19 pandemic was a source of fear and frustration. Yet even through the darkest days of lockdown, we all looked towards the end of the pandemic and the transition beyond the pandemic. Supporting and Informing Paths to Transition provides not only a look into transitioning into Post-COVID-19 life, but at other paths of transition one can journey through. With this issue, we seek to provide a glimpse into the various paths and insights that occur when transitioning from one path to another.

This issue of Positive Approaches Journal is in digital form, available for viewing online or for downloading.

We want to remind you all that September 13–17, 2021 is Direct Support Professional Appreciation Week. Governor Wolf has once again signed a Proclamation to recognize the important role that staff play in service provision.

We would also like to share some ideas from your colleagues that they are planning for their employees in case you are trying to come up with recognition ideas!

  • Gifts to the DSPs, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks filled with goodies (journal, pens, snacks, PPE), and gift cards to grocery stores;
  • Pizza party at each site, bagels and coffee, dinner delivered to each home one night, and/or ice cream cakes; and
  • Personal visits at each site, handwritten thank you notes, and bonuses.

Whatever you decide to do to celebrate your staff, please feel free to share any photos or news stories with RCPA so that we can share them on our social media as well. We are happy to do anything to help promote the good publicity and recognition!
