Gary Woomer Named Chief Executive Officer at CareLink

MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA — CareLink Community Support Services today announced that the agency’s Board of Directors has named Gary Woomer as permanent Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Mr. Woomer was installed as CareLink’s Interim CEO after Eileen Joseph retired in December 2020.

“Gary Woomer is an experienced mental healthcare professional, a strong leader, and a fantastic choice for CEO,” said CareLink Board Chair Scot Stetka. “He has been with CareLink for more than 20 years and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the agency that is unmatched. We are confident that Gary has the expertise to grow CareLink into an even greater, more successful organization.”

Mr. Woomer joined CareLink as a Program Director in 1999 and has since served as Regional Director, Vice President of Program Operations, and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his tenure at CareLink, Mr. Woomer was employed at Prime Care, Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

“I am honored and proud to assume the role of CEO at CareLink, an organization that I have been with for most of my professional life,” Mr. Woomer said. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with our exceptional management team and staff to move the agency forward and meet the challenges of the next decade.”

Mr. Woomer holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute at Bryn Mawr College, a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of St. Francis, and a bachelor’s in psychology from Shippensburg University.

The Recovery and Wellness Team at Community Care is pleased to offer a series of webinars addressing how to use the Social Security work incentives to enhance financial wellness for persons with social security disability benefits. These work incentives can help people who have Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Medicaid or Medicare start, or return to, work and have more money and the health insurance they need. Resources and tools to navigate the work incentives will be shared along with a practical framework of Know the Basics, Ask the Experts, Choose What to Do, and Use the Work Incentives. This website has more information on the Recovery Work Incentives initiative.

Registration: Registration is free, and there are separate links to register for each session. Participants have the option to register for any or all sessions in this series. Registering for all sessions is ideal, as sessions build off one another with optional practice in between sessions. This series is a subset of Community Care’s monthly Wellness Webinars by Dr. Peggy Swarbrick and colleagues. Dr. Swarbrick will be reviewing financial wellness in detail during the month of October.

On October 2, 2020 the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Alex Azar, announced the renewal of the determination that a public health emergency (PHE) exists as a result of the continued consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous PHE was scheduled to expire on October 23, 2020. This renewal is effective as of that date. A determination remains in effect for 90 days or until the Secretary determines that an emergency no longer exists, whichever occurs first. Many of the waivers issued to providers by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and HHS are eligible to remain in place for the duration of the PHE.

The Administration for Community Living sent this message to kick off this month of recognition of the value of people with disabilities in the workforce:

“Today we celebrate the start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and recognize the often overlooked talents that people with disabilities bring to the workforce.  This is a year of milestone anniversaries for the disability community as we celebrate 30 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act and 75 years of NDEAM. This year’s NDEAM theme, “increasing access and opportunity,” reflects the impact of these two milestones.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy offers a range of resources to help employers and organizations plan NDEAM observances, including a poster; social media content; activity ideas for each day of the month; and sample articles, press release, and proclamation.  We hope you will take advantage of these resources and join us in celebrating the importance of competitive, integrated employment in the lives of people with disabilities.”
