Treasurer Stacy Garrity and disability advocates across Pennsylvania hail Congress’s passage of the ABLE Age Adjustment Act, which will expand ABLE program eligibility to include an estimated 6 million more Americans, including one million veterans, by raising the age limit for onset of a disability from 26 to 46 starting in 2026. ABLE accounts are a tax-free way to save for disability-related expenses while maintaining means-tested government benefits.

The agenda for the January 4, 2023, Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) Subcommittee meeting has been released. In an effort to provide additional information on a new provider type recently announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a Medicare Learning Network (MLN) fact sheet was released. This new provider type, Rural Emergency Hospitals (REH), is a new Medicare Part A provider type. Starting January 1, 2023, Medicare will pay for Medicare-enrolled REHs to deliver emergency hospital, observation, and other services to Medicare patients on an outpatient basis. Additional information, including how to become an REH, billing, payment, reporting quality data, etc. is available in the fact sheet.

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) recently released the following Save the Date notice:

Please join the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in observance of Brain Injury Awareness Month. ACL will be hosting a virtual Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Partners Day on February 28, 2023, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Each year, under what was previously called TBI Stakeholder Day, ACL convenes interested parties to discuss important issues around TBI services, supports, and systems and to learn from other partners, brain injury survivors, family members, support networks, and state and federal representatives.

This year, we will have sessions on aging, employment, the intersectionality of TBI and other medical and social issues, and peer support.

While we are still working on finalizing the agenda for the 2023 ACL TBI Partners Day, our plans are to include state and federal representatives as well as brain injury survivors and family members in the sessions. Session participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions during each session. There will be no cost to register for the event.

We will provide more details about the 2023 TBI Partners Day in the coming weeks. If you have any questions about this event, please do not hesitate to contact us via email. For now, please save the date!

Qualifacts & Woods Services Partner to Coordinate Care Across Primary Care, Behavioral, Residential & Community Services

Qualifacts is working with Woods System of Care to meet their expanding care needs, by integrating primary and specialty healthcare workflows from its InSync Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) platform with its CareLogic EHR platform. This open architecture and configurable solution will replace an existing-closed system being used by Woods today, and substantially improve the coordination of activities across systems and services, including external referrals.

Enhancement to the CareLogic EHR for Woods creates three major operational improvements:

  • It will enhance Woods Services’ deployment of a system of care by combining records from the numerous disciplines that are involved in the individual’s care into a “single-view” record of all relevant determinants of health.
  • It will enable medical, psychiatric, and behavioral care providers to streamline a plan of coordinated care.
  • It will allow Woods Services to more efficiently extract clinical data that allows the organization to follow trends and opportunities in a cohort of individuals.

By keeping information in one location, duplication of records can be avoided. More importantly, the data will help to show how the integrated care system in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as the Woods System of Care, are saving the government millions of dollars in Medicaid and Medicare.

According to a Woods Services representative, Woods Services initially identified the need for a records system that could be accessed by primary care, behavioral care, and residential services.

Qualifacts was uniquely positioned to leverage two of its leading EHR platforms to ensure Woods System of Care partners could easily support and coordinate across the full spectrum of services they provide. Woods Services expects to work closely with Qualifacts during rollout and anticipates significant savings through the partnership.
