The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has released the Unified Regulatory Agenda and Regulatory Plan, which outlines regulatory actions federal agencies are considering in the coming months. Regulations can be searched by specific agency, such as Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which includes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

A trauma-informed approach to care acknowledges that health care organizations and care teams need a complete picture of a patient’s life situation — past and present — to provide effective services with a healing orientation. Trauma-informed practices hold the potential to improve patient engagement, treatment adherence, and health outcomes, as well as provider and staff wellness.

This webinar, cosponsored by the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) and the Better Care Playbook, will highlight how Denver Health, a large health system in Colorado, is implementing a trauma- and resilience-informed approach into organization-wide policy and practice, while also focusing on addressing systemic racism and biases. Panelists — including Maria Gonsalves Schimpf, MA, MT-BC, Director, Denver Health RESTORE; Kris Gaw, MBA, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer, Denver Health; and Ken Epstein, PhD, LCSW, Consultant, P.R.E.P. for Change Consulting — will discuss their efforts, including building staff capacity, promoting organizational culture change, and gaining leadership buy in.

Denver Health is a participant in Advancing Integrated Models, a national initiative led by CHCS and made possible through support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

In observance of Brain Injury Awareness Month, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) will be hosting a virtual Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Partners Day on February 28, 2023, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Registration for the free event is now open.

Each year, under what was previously called TBI Stakeholder Day, ACL convenes interested parties to discuss important issues around TBI services, supports, and systems and to learn from other partners, brain injury survivors, family members, support networks, and state and federal representatives.

This year, there will be sessions on aging, employment, the intersectionality of TBI and other medical and social issues, and peer support.

ACL is still working on finalizing the agenda for the 2023 ACL TBI Partners Day; however, they plan to include state and federal representatives as well as brain injury survivors and family members in the sessions. Session participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions during each session.

The webinar will include ASL interpretation, live English captions, and live Spanish interpretation. If you require additional accommodations to participate or if you have any questions about the event, please contact them via email.

In an effort to provide additional information on a new provider type recently announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a Medicare Learning Network (MLN) fact sheet was released. This new provider type, Rural Emergency Hospitals (REH), is a new Medicare Part A provider type. Starting January 1, 2023, Medicare will pay for Medicare-enrolled REHs to deliver emergency hospital, observation, and other services to Medicare patients on an outpatient basis. Additional information, including how to become an REH, billing, payment, reporting quality data, etc. is available in the fact sheet.
