As RCPA continues to serve our members’ needs across the behavioral health service continuum, we will be convening an Adult Mental Health Residential Work Group. This committee will be structured and function in a similar manner to our other work groups, with the goal being to address the outlying barriers providers face within the residential services arena.

RCPA is at its best with committed partnership and collaboration; therefore, the committee will be open to all RCPA members. We will tentatively have our first meeting in late April or early May, after we develop our participant list. The early work will include the development of a strategic agenda that begins to address the challenges related to regulations, workforce, program sustainability, and operations.

If you are interested in participating, please contact RCPA COO and Mental Health Policy Director Jim Sharp via email.

Mark your calendars to join SAMHSA on May 11 for the 6th Annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day Symposium!

This free, all-day, virtual event will feature an engaging plenary, informative sessions, and a diverse array of topics addressing the most pressing behavioral health needs in older adults.

Who should attend?

Public health practitioners, professionals in the aging network, mental health providers, substance use treatment providers, health care professionals, and anyone interested in ensuring the mental health of older adults. In partnership with the E4 Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Disparities in Aging, NCOA will be offering continuing education for several disciplines.

The symposium is brought to you by the National Council on Aging, the Administration for Community Living, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Watch for updates by mid-March from RCPA for registration info.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) has launched a web page detailing the Behavioral Health Commission for Adult Mental Health. Among other information, the page includes a list of the 24 commissioners, dates for upcoming commission meetings (which are open to the public for both in-person and remote participation), and an email address for those interested in attending the meetings.

The commission will next meet at 1:00 pm, September 1, in Dauphin County at a location to be determined.

Act 54 of 2022 established the Behavioral Health Commission for Adult Mental Health as an interdisciplinary body comprised of leadership from state agencies, communities around Pennsylvania, and the behavioral health field as well as individuals with lived experience with behavioral health.

The legislature appropriated $100 million of American Rescue Plan Act funding for adult mental health programs. Per Act 54 of 2022, no funding shall be expended until enabling legislation is enacted by the General Assembly. The Commission shall produce a report with funding recommendations.
