IDD Update March 18, 2016
ABLE Legislation
Senator Lisa Baker’s legislation to establish Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) tax savings accounts for individuals with disabilities in Pennsylvania (SB 879) passed the House Finance Committee on March 16 and will now move to the full House for a vote. The state’s Treasury Department will be responsible to establish these accounts.

- Call 911 in a Medical Emergency: ODP is offering guidance to providers regarding recognizing a medical emergency and seeking immediate attention. Policies should not require staff to contact a supervisor before calling 911, as this delay could lead to serious consequences or even death.

Licensing Update
The Department of Human Services Bureau of Human Services Licensing has issued an update regarding the certification and licensing system (CLS). Due to issues with providers regarding inaccurate certificates of compliance, it is necessary to make a system change to reduce the number of these errors.
