This course is designed to provide an overview of the cycle of use and abuse of opiates in the United States. The diagnostic criteria for opioid use disorders, including clinical presentation, epidemiology and treatment, will be explored. Participants will learn about the mechanisms of action of opioids, including how they affect the brain and nervous system. In addition, the course will cover strategies for managing opioid overdose and preventing relapse, as well as the importance of addressing co-occurring mental health conditions in the treatment of opioid use disorder. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address opioid use disorders in their practice or community.

Trauma is ever-present in the lives of many people who seek professional help. This training will provide a foundational overview necessary to understand the impact of traumatic experiences. Areas that will be explored include definitions, diagnostic criteria, prevalence data and brain changes. Participants will engage in discussions regarding their professional experiences in working with people with trauma histories. A vignette will be provided highlighting the lasting impact trauma can have on a person, as well as the healing journey toward recovery. Lastly, the importance of becoming trauma-informed practitioners will also be introduced.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Office of Disability Integration and Coordination (ODIC) has released a new version of its training course titled “IS-368.A: Including People with Disabilities in Disaster Operations.”
The course is designed for all personnel involved in disaster operations. It provides an introductory overview of information and strategies on how to include people with disabilities during mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-102: Now Open: Registration for Certified Investigator (CI) Initial Certification Course. The Initial CI Certification Course was created to ensure that all incidents requiring an investigation receive a systematic review that meets established standards. To perform investigations, the CI candidate must successfully complete all requirements of the CI Initial Certification Course. The CI Initial Certification process, as well as steps for registering for the CI Initial Certification course, are described in ODPANN 23-102. The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-048: Required Communication Specialist Provider Qualification Training UPDATED. The purpose of this announcement is to remind Communication Specialist providers that in order to provide services after January 1, 2024, the Communication Specialist training must be completed. Please review the announcement for updated information, including accessing the training course.
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-099 Medication Administration Paper Course Discontinuation Reminder and Online System Trainer Refresher Course. The purpose of this communication is to remind Medication Administration trainers that the 2004 paper course and the 2004 and 2013 manuals will be discontinued and no longer valid for use in training students after December 31, 2023, and to advertise an Online System Trainer Refresher Course being held in January 2024. In addition, in response to the concerns providers have shared, ODP has restructured the documentation exam. They are also working on the language level assessment for the multiple choice exam and the documentation exam. ODP anticipates that all updates will be completed prior to January 1, 2024.

Project Echo at Penn State College of Medicine Presents:
Project Reassure: Fostering Resilience for Adult Neurodiverse Communities
Register for this no-cost training hour-eligible series for professionals serving adult neurodiverse individuals. The eight-session Project Reassure ECHO series will launch on January 12, 2024, from 7:45 am –9:00 am.
This series will provide participants with strategies in supporting adult neurodiverse individuals struggling with anxiety related to the COVID-19 pandemic and building resilience. The curriculum will cover the basics of recognizing trauma, stress, and anxiety; fostering resilience building skills; crisis prevention; dealing with uncertainty; and changes in the adult neurodiverse brain. Professionals serving adult neurodiverse individuals, including immediate direct clinical supervisors of direct support professionals, group home managers, behavior specialists, and program coordinators, are encouraged to register and actively participate.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-097: Now Available: Certified Investigator Peer Review (CIPR) Course. The purpose of this announcement is to convey the availability of the CIPR course. All entities that complete investigations are required to conduct the CIPR process as outlined in the CIPR Manual. This course is offered as an opportunity to support entities to complete high-quality CIPRs that help mitigate risks to individuals receiving services. The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) will launch a new Training Management System (TMS) in January 2024. To facilitate the transition, the current TMS and DDAP courses in TrainPA will be frozen at 3:00 pm Thursday, December 7, until the system’s launch on January 4, 2024. DDAP emphasizes the importance of verifying matching email addresses in both systems to mitigate potential record loss during the migration process. Users are strongly encouraged to conclude any ongoing TrainPA trainings and finalize pending course evaluations within the current TMS before the freeze period.
