This training on COVID-19 will be a joint effort between PCHC’s nursing and behavioral health departments.

During this training, we will be discussing the history of coronaviruses, including the different variants we have experienced. We will touch on the following: common signs/symptoms of COVID-19 in general and some variant-specific signs/symptoms, including what is known about long COVID; the medical impact of COVID on each body system; and its effects on behavioral health. In addition, we will discuss vaccines and treatments. Information on how to find credible sources of news will be presented and how the loss of trust in science has evolved and contributed to the pandemic.

Residential Habilitation Service Providers Virtual Office Hours: Best Practice Standards in Behavioral Support

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) recognizes that effective, quality behavioral support must be grounded in and informed by basic, broadly accepted knowledge and processes. We have disseminated the Best Practice Standards in Behavioral Support to streamline expectations and practices for those individuals providing behavioral support in ODP programs. These standards were developed by ODP’s Unified Clinical Team consisting of representation from both the Bureau of Community Supports and the Bureau of Supports for Autism and Special Populations. The standards were drafted and disseminated in early 2021.

We are excited to discuss the standards with Residential Providers, encouraging those within the agency who have a role in oversight or implementation of Behavioral Support Services (e.g. Program Specialists, Clinical Staff, Behavioral Specialists) to join us!

The Council on Brain Injury (CoBI) has announced an upcoming clinical forum entitled “Brain Injury Across the Pediatric Lifespan” on February 8, 2022, from 3:30 pm–5:00 pm. The presentation and discussion will be conducted by Dr. Juliet Haarbauer-Krupa.

Juliet Haarbauer-Krupa, PhD, is a senior health scientist on the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Team in the Division of Injury Prevention (DIP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Injury Center. As a health scientist, her role on the TBI team is to devise research projects and products to better understand trends in TBI in the United States and to improve health outcomes for individuals living with a TBI. She is Project Lead on the Report to Congress on the Management of Traumatic Brain Injury in Children and a scientific collaborator for clinical decision support and return to school projects in the division.

 The Office of Federal Contractor Compliance Programs (OFCCP) will hold a webinar at 2:00 pm EST on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, “on the registration process for OFCCP’s new Contractor Portal. Federal contractors are required to take affirmative action to provide equal employment opportunities. Federal contractors meeting specific jurisdictional thresholds are required to develop a written Affirmative Action Program (AAP) under each of the laws enforced by OFCCP. Covered federal contractors must use the Contractor Portal to certify, on an annual basis, whether they have developed and maintained an AAP for each establishment and/or functional unit, as applicable.”
