Temple University has announced free online training options that have been approved to meet personal care home (PCH) annual training requirements. There are two spring 2024 training sessions with various dates to choose from. To learn more about the training sessions and to register, visit the following links:

Participation is limited for each course. If you register and later discover you are unable to participate, please cancel your registration to create space for other participants. Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), in partnership with Temple University Harrisburg, is hosting the 2023 Behavioral Health Crisis Planning Symposium from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Thursday, September 14 at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey. This event focuses on offering recovery-oriented support for individuals with behavioral health issues in community-based settings. The symposium aligns with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care and will showcase successful crisis approaches from other states, offering insights into SAMHSA’s vision for an accessible crisis care continuum. The symposium targets various stakeholders, including county leaders, service providers, advocates, law enforcement, and more. To register, visit this link.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-068: 2023–2024 Temple Peer Review Process Beginning. The purpose of this announcement is to communicate the beginning of the 2023–2024 Peer Review process conducted by Temple University’s Quality Investigations Unit (QIU). This involves the creation of a survey to obtain updated provider information, informing providers that the Peer Review process will include the tracking of certification/recertification dates of each CI who conducted the investigation that was reviewed, and informing stakeholders of staff changes within the QIU.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has shared ODPANN 23-047: Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) and Temple University Harrisburg — Certified Investigator Initial Certification Course Delivery Questionnaire. This communication asks stakeholders to complete a survey to gain input on future delivery methods for the Certified Investigator Initial Certification course.

The short questionnaire will help determine the path moving forward for scheduling in-person and virtual CI Initial Certification courses. ODP would like to hear from current CIs, previous CIs, organization management, administration, and leadership.

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) is excited to announce a new program available for any individual registered with ODP. ODP has funded online Speech and Language Pathology services, Just SO (Short-Term Online), through TechOWL at the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University.

Individuals and their families/teams can receive up to 10 hours of virtual services from a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist (SLP). An SLP can work with your team to:

  • Assess current communication;
  • Recommend a communication focus;
  • Develop a communication support plan;
  • Teach practical strategies for communication;
  • Select, set up, and/or customize a communication device, if recommended;
  • Plan for getting an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device, including writing an insurance report, if necessary; and
  • Troubleshoot communication strategies, AAC devices, and more.

ODP Announcement 22-114 reports that the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) contracts with Temple University Harrisburg to deliver the ODP Certified Investigator Program. ODP and Temple University are conducting Certified Investigator Friday Forums. These forums are an opportunity for current Certified Investigators and other interested parties to receive up-to-date information about the incident investigation process.
